Should employers recruit people based on their character or grades? Why do you think so?

My place of work employed a man that had 'ologies' coming out of every orifice. However, he was one of the worst teachers that we had ever had. Simply had no idea how to talk to children. He didn't last too long.

A teacher should be able to interact with children properly.Sadly, many can't.

I think an employer should check for both because an employer needs good skills for proper functioning and growth of enterprise, similarly the loyalty & character of employee is also important for employers. A bad character of an employee not only spoils the environment of office but also the image of company.

True but I think a good character should be given more importance.

I simplify such things. The old addage, "Keen, Willing and Able" works very well. So, a combination :)
